Pond
KCG were contacted by the conservation team in Land Services to see if funds
could be secured for the naturalisation of a local pond. The project aimed
to install two breeding bird islands and a soft edge around the pond to help
improve the appearance and increase the biodiversity of the area. The hope
was that the new design would encourage breeding swans, which in turn would
reduce the problems of faecal contamination of the paths and nutrient driven
algal blooms in the water by reducing the overall swan population year round.
The pond is located next to Gartnavel Hospital on the south of the Great Western
Road. Our role has been primarily as co-funders and ordering and supplying
wildflowers for the planting of the new shelves around the pond. The key partners
have been Land Services and the local community council.
Future activities include the monitoring of the scheme to identify the success
of the scheme and changes to wildlife on site
