Caldercuilt
Primary
In 2002 we approached Caldercuilt Primary school to get the assistance of
the
pupils to plant wildflowers for the local Rosedale Park Residents Association.
The school requested our assistance with two courtyard gardens in the middle
of the school. Following talks to the entire school and later parents work began
on planning the gardens with the Primary 7’s. A parents’ school grounds
group ‘Ground Force’ was formed and the committee began designing
the first courtyard.
In spring 2004 work began on creating the infants’ garden. With the help
of pupils and parents the old pond, which was cracked and leaking, was replaced – and
32 frogs relocated to Possil Loch! – and some trees and other plants removed
to allow more light in. Two small walls with seats were constructed by local
landscape contractor Budds Landscaping. Native wildflowers and plants attractive
to wildlife were planted by the Scottish Wildlife Trust.
In the autumn term 2004 the new Primary 7 class began thinking about the senior
courtyard garden. Plans will soon be drawn up and work should begin this winter.
