Drumchapel
Community Garden
In 2002 Drumchapel L.I.F.E. approached KCG to assist with finding
land suitable for a proposed community growing project in the area.
Following a consultation event with local people that year the desire was
raised for an opportunity to have somewhere in Drumchapel where local people
can learn
how to grow fruit and vegetables and enjoy being in an attractive garden space.
Through the Council’s Development and Regeneration Services KCG located
an area of land near the shopping centre below the Linkwood flats currently
in the joint ownership of Land Services and Glasgow Housing Association.
In summer 2004 a partnership- of KCG, Drumchapel L.I.F.E., Drumchapel Community
Forum, and Drumchapel Environment Trust prepared a brief describing outline plans
for the garden. This was then put out to tender and was subsequently won by landscape
architects Land Use Consultants (LUC). Over the summer months LUC carried out
community consultations with local people and drew up draft designs for the garden.
These plans will soon be taken to Drumchapel residents for discussion and funding
will be sought for the community garden.
