Drumchapel
Paths to Health
Walking is an easy but important form of exercise. For some people there is
a
critical need to exercise more and Culture and Leisure’s Paths to Health
initiative throughout the city is designed to encourage walking for residents
of all ages and abilities. But it does have a particular emphasis on for example
the GP’s Referral Scheme where patients are encouraged by their doctor
to walk more. Paths to Health tries to provide accessible footpaths throughout
the city for those for whom walking may be difficult or not part of their normal
daily regime.
A network of paths through and around Drumchapel has been designated as potential
routes for a local Paths to Health project. Over the last two years a partnership
of KCG, Culture and Leisure, Drumchapel Community Health Action Team and others
has met to co-ordinate the local arm of the initiative.
Walks have already begun with Walk Leaders being trained to lead walks and local
people are already taking advantage of these accompanied excursions which are
suitable for all and are taken at a gentle pace.
Footpaths will soon be upgraded as part of the project, signage will be installed
and maps and leaflets produced to enable people to walk round Drumchapel in a
safe and stimulating way.
