Garscadden Burn Park
As part of the Drumchapel Paths to Health project Garscadden Burn Park is being
upgraded to provide an attractive walking route for local people. This site is
already a City Council Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC) and
is of considerable local interest because of its varied plantlife and habitats.
In 2003 KCG undertook work on this site to clear away the accumulation of fly-tipping
and other litter which choked the burn and made the walk through the woods less
than attractive. A local contractor remove the larger items of litter from the
burn and nearby area and volunteers from the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers
(BTCV) worked hard to remove the rest of the litter in the burn area. They are
also putting in seating to allow local people to relax and enjoy the area or
simply take a break from the long walk to and from the shopping centre. More
seating will soon be added to the park to allow residents to sit and watch sports
events taking place in the adjacent Donald Dewar Sports Centre.
Following this work Garscadden Burn Park is now a much more attractive area in
which to spend time and the litter is now being removed regularly by Land Services
to keep the route open and well-maintained.
