Hillhead
Children’s Garden
Hillhead Primary School, like many Glasgow schools, lacks any Greenspace
and is a desert of tarmac. As a result parents of children attending the
school set
up a Committee to create a garden for the school. An approach to the Glasgow
Botanic Gardens was successful and Hillhead Children’s Garden was created
in an area of n the Botanics which was formerly a nursery garden.
KCG paid to have a landscape architect draw up plans for the garden and the
Council’s
Land Services Department have carried out much work to create raised beds suitable
for growing fruits and vegetables.
The garden now provides an excellent resource for local schools and other groups
to actively grow their own produce and learn about healthy eating.
KCG will be involved in creating a wildlife garden in the area . The Bugs, Birds
and Butterflies garden should be ready by summer 2005.
