Breathing spaces
Parks, gardens, community gardens, allotments, rivers and lochs all provide
spaces in which people can enjoy being outside, exercising, playing, relaxing.
They allow residents to escape the noise and activity of the busy city, to
take time out from work and perhaps pursue a hobby such as gardening, walking
or cycling.
Kelvin Clyde Greenspace works with local community and residents' groups
to help improve existing green areas on their doorsteps or create new greenspaces
from vacant or derelict land. If necessary we can help you find funding and
can lend tools and equipment to groups.
Glasgow has an amazing variety of wildlife, from mosses to minibeasts, foxes
to fish, some of which are locally or even nationally rare or threatened.
kelvin clyde Greenspace is helping develop and implement Glasgow's Biodiveristy
Action Plan which focuses on important species such as water voles and reed
buntings and habitats such as woodlands and raised bogs. We manage and improve
sites which have already been identified as being of particular value for wildlife,
such as Hoggenfield Loch and other local nature reserves. we aim to improve
the links between previously isolated greenspaces by creating green corridors
in the city.
Together with local schools and community groups, we have planted native wildflowers
and trees in many Glasgow parks and open spaces.
Walking, cycling and riding are effective, healthy and fun ways of getting
about the city. A network of quality footpaths allow people to travel from
one place to another in a safe and sustainable way.
Kelvin Clyde Greenspace is working with local people to improve access throughout
the city and beyond. together we are developing new links to enable everyone,
regardless of age or ability, to safely enjoy and make better use of greenspaces.
School grounds are often under-used and under-valued resource. They can be
attractive places in which children can both play and learn but are often
deserts of mown grass or tarmac.
Kelvin Clyde Greenspace can assist with the design, funding and creation of
wildlife gardens for schools and other educational spaces. We work with staff,
pupils and parents to improve school grounds to meet curriculum needs and to
encourage positive play. We can provide advice on play equipment, outdoor furniture,
landscaping and maintainance.
We also offer in-service training to teachers to encourage use of school grounds
and local greenspaces for science topics.
Employment and training are critical in developing any of our projects often
involve the training of long term unemployed. where possible we use local contractors
or volunteers to implement work.
Kelvin Clyde Greenspace works with a wide range of people to deliver the enviromental
improvements which help make Glasgow a more attractive place in which to live
and work. This will help to attract new businesses and improve local job opportunities.
